The Nepali Women’s Global Network (NWGN) is proud to announce that it is now accepting submissions for its essay contest. The winner will receive a cash award of $500 to be put toward their tuition and/or the expenses associated with their first year at college. For Eligibility You Must: v Be a female student of Nepali ancestry v Attending a U.S. high school or college/university in the 2010-2011 academic school year v Submit an original essay on the topic of your choice by June 30, 2010 v Submit a registration form (page 2). Forms are also available online at www.nepaliwomen.org  Essay Competition Guidelines This contest is an opportunity for individuals to express their understanding of the world they live in and the impact our personal, social and political action has on the larger society. Contestants are requested to express their views and experiences on one of the following four topics: v Specific or general struggles and/or triumphs of Nepali Women v Expectations of the female ideal vs. your female role models. v Identify an issue or challenge dealing with gender equality and propose possible solutions v Your experiences or observations of gender-based inequality in either the public or private sphere. What was your response, if any? v What do gender, culture and power mean to you? Draw on any one of the themes and write an essay from a personal female perspective. v What do you bring to your school as a Nepali woman or how has your schooling experience shaped you as a Nepali woman?  Essay Format v 3-5 pages in length TYPED in English v Double spaced v Standard 1.0 margins v Standard 12 point Times New Roman font v Personal narrative is optional v One entry per person  Participants must be the writers and owners of the narratives submitted to the writing competition. No copyrighted material may be submitted.

Entries will be judged on the following criteria: v Originality v Relatedness to theme v Style  The winner will be selected and their names will be announced in July.
