NWGN announced the winner of the 2nd Annual Annapurna Award in September 2009. The Award is given to a Nepali individual who has made outstanding contributions toward increasing awareness and education as well as actually securing rights for women and children in Nepal including working towards ending the suffering of Nepali women and children who are trafficked into sexual slavery throughout the world.
The Award was awarded to Mr. Shyam Kumar Pokharel one of the founders of Samrakshak Samuha Nepal, Dillibazar, Kathmandu, Nepal. It is clear from the nomination and the words of those who recommended him that he is a good fit for this award. As the recipient of this award, NWGN would like to extend an invitation to consider attending and speaking at the 2nd NWGN conference, which will take place next year (2010).
Lastly, we would like to thank Captive Daughters for their work and commitment toward ending human trafficking and making this award possible.
